Falmouth is a fantastic all-year holiday destination. It is ideal for those who want a base to visit places throughout Cornwall, being situated almost centrally on the county's southern coast. However, there are so many things to do and places to visit in and around Falmouth that it would be easy just to stay close to the town.
Apart from the beaches and the coastal walks, that are great at any time of the year (bear in mind that the climate is such that there are palm trees growing at the side of the road!), the town has many stunning views of the River Fal and the Penryn River. You can just watch the activity on the water, or take a trip on a ferry or pleasure boat, or perhaps hire a boat and explore the creeks yourself.
The town has a good variety of shops and places to eat and drink, so many an hour can easily be spent exploring! Be sure to visit the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, Pendennis Castle and St Mawes Castle across the other side of the Fal.
There are some of Cornwalls best gardens only a few miles from the town centre - Trelissick, by the side of the Fal on the way upstream towards Truro; Trebah and Glendurgan both offer views of the Helford River and are near Mawnan Smith (south of Falmouth). Further afield are the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project, both of which are close to St Austell - about 30 miles to the north.
Outside of the summer holidays, Falmouth is somewhere to relax and unwind - the only thing missing is the crowds!
